Learn about NASA’s PUNCH program, along with past and modern perspectives of astronomy at Jemez Historic Site during two programs held on Saturday, July 19.
What: At 11:00 a.m., Jim Greenhouse, from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science in Albuquerque, will share images and discuss details of the NASA PUNCH (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) mission during the “Looking to the Skies: Modern and Ancient Astronomers” program. He will share images and offer visitors a chance to view the sun using a solar telescope. At 8:00 p.m., visitors can spend an evening under the stars and in the museum for a presentation by Cherilynn Morrow from the NASA PUNCH outreach program as part of “Star Gazing at Jemez.” She will talk about the science behind the sun while volunteers from The Albuquerque Astronomical Society will be set up throughout the site with telescopes for nighttime sky viewing. Pueblo food and art vendors will be at the event.
When: Saturday, July 19, 2025, Looking to the Skies from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; Star Gazing at Jemez from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.

Why: These family-friendly weekend activities teach visitors about astronomy through contemporary and Indigenous perspectives while offering an opportunity to view the sun, stars, and constellations. Looking to the Skies is included with admission of $7 for adults. Star Gazing at Jemez is $10 for adults. Purchase tickets online. Both programs are free to children 16 years and younger, people with Native/Tribal affiliations, NM disabled veterans, NM foster families, Friends of Coronado & Jemez members, and MNMF members.
