Photographs taken by children at Saranam, will be on display Friday, May 29 at the Albuquerque Museum. Saranam partnered with award-winning photojournalist and author, Linda Solomon, and her nationally acclaimed program “Pictures of Hope”.
“Our kids and their families had a fun, unique and empowering experience with their new cameras. When we get to see the world through the kids’ lens, we can truly see hope for our community!” said Tracy Weaver, Executive Director of Saranam.
The children, parents, and mentors from the Albuquerque community met Linda Solomon last month on April 3, at Albuquerque Museum for a special presentation and photography tutorial. Solomon offered engaging tips and tricks for taking photos. The children wrote their hopes and dreams with mentors and then were surprised with a gift of a new digital camera graciously donated by Walgreens. The children and mentors walked through Old Town to capture their dreams on their list. Some of the handwritten hopes and dreams were:
“My hope is to find the end of a rainbow.” “My hope is to see the ocean.”
“My dream is to be a doctor.”
“The looks of excitement as the participants received their own cameras and took pictures around Old Town were memorable. What an impressive program for the children to capture photos of their hopes and dreams!”, shared Barbara Chenoweth, a volunteer mentor.
This project also includes a set of greeting cards with the children’s images. Each set includes 12 folded cards and envelopes. The sets of notecards are for purchase, and all the sales will benefit Saranam. The cards will be available for purchase at the event on May 29.
All are welcome to attend to view the images and support the youth of Albuquerque. The photographs will be displayed at Albuquerque Museum 2000 Mountain Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104 on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.
